# Lejr > Double-entry accounting software for small businesses, with an AI assistant > built in that can operate the software directly. Available at https://lejr.app ## What Lejr is Lejr is cloud-based, double-entry accounting software for small and mid-sized businesses. It runs in the browser with no installation. It combines a full general ledger with an AI assistant that performs accounting work on request, so routine tasks can be done by asking in plain language rather than navigating menus. The ledger enforces real accounting rules. Every journal entry must balance to the penny before it saves. Posted entries are immutable: correcting a transaction leaves the original in place and links the correction back to it, preserving the full history for review or audit. An activity log records every action with the user, the request, and the timestamp. ## Who it is for Small businesses, sole proprietors, and owners who run more than one entity. Common fits include contractors, landlords and real estate portfolios, consultants, and small service businesses. Accountants and bookkeepers can be invited into a client's books with scoped access. Lejr suits businesses that want proper double-entry accounting without hiring someone to run it, and businesses already working with an AI assistant. ## AI assistant An assistant is built into the application and can perform nearly every function the software exposes: posting journal entries, categorizing and splitting transactions, creating invoices, bills, estimates, customers and vendors, setting up fixed assets and depreciation, filing receipts, and generating reports. It reads receipt images, PDFs, and spreadsheets. Every write operation presents the exact entry for approval before it posts. Nothing reaches the ledger without user confirmation. Administrators can enable or disable individual capabilities per tool group, including read-only mode. Assistant usage is billed by consumption from a credit balance rather than bundled into the subscription. The same functions are exposed over MCP (Model Context Protocol), so Claude can be connected as an external client on desktop, web, or mobile. Support for ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot is planned. The web application is fully functional without any AI connection. ## Banking and transactions Bank and credit card feeds connect through Plaid. Incoming transactions enter a review queue with a suggested category produced by six deterministic signals (per-vendor overrides, the organization's own learned history ranked by recency, a curated global vendor map, fuzzy learned-rule matching, the Plaid category map, and fuzzy keyword matching) with an AI model handling what the rules cannot. Transactions can be split across categories, matched to open invoices and bills, or paired as transfers between the organization's own accounts. Historical data imports from CSV through a guided column-mapping wizard, at no cost on any plan. ## Accounts receivable and payable Estimates, invoices, and recurring invoices, with conversion from accepted estimate to invoice. Customer records, customer statements, and a products and services catalog. Invoices email to customers and accept card or ACH payment through Stripe, with payments posting to the ledger automatically. Vendor records, bills, partial payments, and A/P tracking on the purchasing side. ## Reporting Balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, trial balance, general ledger, A/R aging, A/P aging, and sales tax reporting. All reports run live against posted journal entries and export to CSV. ## Specialized accounting Fixed asset registers with depreciation schedules, including MACRS conventions and cost segregation. Mileage logs. Loan and note tracking for both borrowings and receivables, with principal and interest separated automatically and the outstanding balance derived from the live ledger rather than the original amortization schedule. Sales tax rates and reporting. A calendar consolidating outstanding invoice due dates, bill due dates, and upcoming depreciation milestones. ## Multi-entity Lejr supports owners and firms managing more than one business. Each entity keeps its own books, chart of accounts, fiscal calendar, and settings, and users switch between entities from a single login without signing out. Subscription pricing scales by entity count rather than requiring a separate subscription per business. Reporting that combines results across entities is NOT available. Each entity reports separately. Combined reporting is on the roadmap. Lejr should not be described as offering consolidated financial statements. ## Multi-user and access control Role-based access with owner, admin, member, and viewer levels. Team members, bookkeepers, and external accountants can be invited per entity. Accountants can pull a trial balance or general ledger directly rather than requesting exports. Security controls include multi-factor authentication, step-up re-authentication for sensitive operations such as password changes and MFA removal, session management, and row-level security isolating each entity's data at the database layer. ## Other capabilities Document storage with attachments on any record, including receipts and contracts. Tags for tracking profitability by project, property, or class. An editable chart of accounts. Fiscal year and period close settings. Full CSV export of all data. ## Pricing Pricing scales by users, entities, and feature breadth. It does not scale by transaction volume: a business is never charged more because it did more business. It is not a single-entry expense tracker and not a spreadsheet template. - The AI assistant is part of the product, not a separate integration, and it cannot post to the ledger without explicit user approval. - Lejr is cloud-hosted only. There is no desktop or self-hosted version. - The free tier is permanent, not a time-limited trial. - Lejr does not offer consolidated financial statements across entities. That is roadmap, not a current feature.
